Community Engagement

CNet is committed to supporting its local and wider community and the younger generation. CNet continues to donate time and resource to help in the following ways...

University Technology College (UTC) Heathrow, UK

We are proud to have been one of the driving forces behind launching the University Technical College (UTC) Heathrow, UK – the very first UTC dedicated to the Digital Infrastructure Industry.

CNet committed early on as a partner and helped to recruit other industry leading partners to help design and deliver the curriculum of the Digital Futures Programme. The important curriculum that introduces the students to the digital infrastructure industry, providing the essential knowledge and skills needed to thrive in technical careers within the data center sector and across the industry.

The objective of this ground-breaking initiative is to help to future-proof the industry by inspiring a new generation to join it and enjoy a rewarding career within it, an essential move to help plug the on-going skills shortage.

The Digital Futures Programme is hugely beneficial to both the students and the partners, as the partners have the opportunity to spend valuable time with the students, mentoring them, getting to know them, and potentially recruiting them.

Involvement in the Inside_Networks Charity Golf Day

The origins of the Inside_Networks Charity Golf Day go back to 2005 where CNet’s Andrew Stevens shared the idea of setting up a charity golf day with a few other industry leaders. The idea was well-received and soon gathered enough interest to kick off what has since become an annual event in the network infrastructure and data center industry calendar.

The aim is to have a fun day whilst raising funds for the UK charity, Macmillan Cancer Support – a charity with an ambition to reach and improve the lives of everyone living with cancer and to inspire millions of others to do the same.

STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) Support

The skills shortage is a huge challenge for the digital infrastructure industry, so it is essential for everyone throughout the industry to spread the word about the industry and the amazing career opportunities there are within it. And what better than to start as early as possible.

There is no doubt that the younger generation are influenced about their future career from a very early age, from parents, teachers and peers. The CNet team is playing an important role in this.

Many of the team at CNet are STEM ambassadors and are regularly involved in STEM activities through working closely with STEMPOINT East and The STEM Innovation Centre in the UK. Recently CNet has presented the data center sector and wider digital infrastructure industry to students at The STEM Innovation Centre for the UK’s Eastern Region, and we have provided all the students with the opportunity to take the Data Center Fundamentals program free of charge so they can really understand what a data center is, how we all rely on them every day and why they are so important.

We also visit schools throughout the local region to give a series of talks to students of varying ages. The aim is to inspire the younger generation across STEM subjects by introducing them to the industry and encourage them to look closer at the industry, talk about it and consider it as a potential career opportunity.
