Today’s focus of National Apprenticeship Week is the apprentices themselves.
We have recently welcomed four apprentices from Onnec to CNet HQ to begin the Network Cable Installer (NCI®) Apprenticeship program, and we will be tracking their progress throughout their 18 month journey.

Asean Williams and Edvard Dittert are two of the newest cohort undertaking CNet Training’s Network Cable Installer (NCI®) Apprenticeship, as part of Onnec’s structured cabling Apprenticeship program. Asean and Edvard tell us about their Apprenticeship journey so far and ambitions for the future…
Asean: “I started my journey in construction four years ago while on the Crossrail project at Paddington and it was at that point I wanted to get into the electrical field. I joined the London Construction Academy studying a Level 2 Diploma in Electrical Installation. I knew I wanted to do something that required wiring and connecting electrical circuits and it was shortly after that I came across the role of Network Cable Installer.”
“I’m now on the Network Cable Installer Apprenticeship and I’m really enjoying it and finding the experienced insightful. I’ll be learning to install network cabling professionally and confidently to a high standard, and to understand the issues around installing an infrastructure. I’m working towards achieving a Level 3 BTEC qualification in Network Cable Installation and to being fully competent with the design and build of network cabling.”
“After I’ve gained enough experience and worked my way up to supervisor, I’m hoping one day to be a manager of a project.”
Edvard: “I’ve been living in London, after moving from Hungary 2014, and have been working primarily in the hospitality sector, where I’ve gained experience both in front and back of house and management positions. After heavy contemplation, I have realised it is not the correct career choice for me. I have always shown interest towards the world of information technology, and its impact on our lives now and in the future, and so I have decided to follow this path.
I found Onnec last year while searching for an Apprenticeship that would allow me to pursue a career closer to my interests, and after researching the company and its achievements, I felt that the company’s long history and proof of excellent performance in past projects and partnerships could provide me with the knowledge and expertise I would need to reach my fullest potential throughout the program. At the end of the Apprenticeship, I expect to have gained a deep understanding of data networks and the crucial components that can make them happen. I also hope to learn more about future career paths that could open after successfully completing the Apprenticeship.
My short-term goal is to give my fullest dedication throughout this Apprenticeship and give all my effort to surpass expectations. As I am still exploring what this career path has to offer, I feel undecided regarding my long-term goals, but I am certain I will be able to find it with Onnec’s support.”
