Certification Testing of Fibre Systems Course Overview

Gain a greater knowledge of the design concepts & certification of fibre systems.
This 2-day course is designed for engineers already installing fibre, to provide information and essential experience on system design and certification testing requirements, for both multimode and singlemode fibre optic cabling systems.

Delivered through a series of demonstrations and instructor led practical assignments, this course is designed to provide a comprehensive insight into all aspects of fibre testing and the design requirements for modern network architectures up to 10Gbps Ethernet fibre-to-the-desktop systems as well as inter and intra-building backbone cabling. Tier I and Tier II Certification testing are also covered as well as the storage, recall, analysis and collation of the test results.

Fibre design rules
  • Ethernet 10Mbps, 100Mbps, Gigabit & 10Gbps systems, other common networking technologies in multi & singlemode fibre

Fibre connector specifications
  • Overview of modern fibre connectors including ST, SC, LC & MTRJ

Fibre network designs
  • Intra-building backbone systems, campus networks & fibre-to-the-desk designs (fttd)

Heath & safety
  • Procedures
  • Regulatory and legal responsibilities

Instrument capabilities
  • Distance measurements, loss measurements (fibre, bending, splicing & connectors)

Instrument Limitations
  • OTDR limitations & how to resolve various issues

Measuring
  • Measuring cable in different situations
  • Cable drum
  • Bare installed fibre
  • Treminated system testing

Common problems
  • Poor launch conditions, interfacing to bare fibres, ghosts, saturations, mis-matches & linearity

Operational procedure
  • Operating the OTDR & OLTS

Efficient operation
  • Automatic configurations & macro facilities Set-up & software routines Set-up & software routines
